Reading historical novels helps the writer to enter the world he would like to narrate. Reading some historical novels is not enough as documentation, but it is necessary to read them to know the narrative genre, as already discussed in the previous article. The writer will thus be able to get an idea of how the subject is treated and the story is structured, what style is used, the detail and how the characters are presented. Above all, he will be able to know how much documentation there was behind the writing of the historical novel. My experience in documenting the historical-geographical setting I am planning - and this means that there is not even a completely sketched plot - two novels of a fantasy genre, but which have a real historical background.
The first is set at the end of the 19th century and in a Phone Number Data foreign country (but Italy is also involved to a small extent), while the second is set in Italy, but in the 15th century. For both I need good documentation, especially for the first one. What were the borders of that country like at the time of my story? Who was in charge? And in Italy? And the same goes for the second. I am therefore looking for historical information on the two periods and I even found an online magazine that talked about the event that I will have to deal with in the second novel.

Unfortunately it wasn't very useful to me, but it's part of the "game". It is my intention, therefore, to read historical publications on the two periods and also find ancient geographical maps, which show old borders and locations that may have changed names over time or even no longer exist. Did you read up before writing? Do you agree with my observations.
